Environments

The official Cardano Environment configuration files.

Environment description and configuration files available are:

Preview Testnet
Pre-production Testnet
Production (Mainnet)

Preview

Environment: Preview Testnet

Usage: Testing release candidates and mainnet releases. Leads mainnet hard forks by at least 4 weeks.

Ideally stays long running. Only if an issue is found after it forks that’s breaking should it be respun.

Epoch length of 1 day. Development flags allowed in configuration files.

Upgrade Strategy:

Release Candidates - 1/3 of nodes
Official Releases - 2/3 of nodes
Hard forks - all nodes
Community requested to only deploy release candidates and official releases

Ouroboros Genesis Mode

Ouroboros genesis mode is now the default consensus mode on preview and preprod testnets starting with node 10.5.0. If needed, use of praos mode and the bootstrap peers found in the above topology file can be reverted to by setting:

Node config’s ConsensusMode option to a value of PraosMode

Guardrails reference script UTxO

For convenience, the guardrails script has been put on a UTxO so that it can be used as reference script in Treasury Withdrawal and Protocol Parameter Change proposals.

Pre-production

Environment: Pre-Production Testnet

Usage: Testing release candidates and mainnet releases. Forks at approximately same time as mainnet (within an epoch of each other).

Long running. Since this parallels mainnet, if a bug occurs here, it needs fixed properly and can not be respun.

Release Candidates - 1/3 of nodes
Official Releases - 2/3 of nodes
Hard forks - all nodes
Community requested to only deploy release candidates and official releases

Dijkstra Testnet

Advanced Configuration: Dijkstra Testnet

The Dijkstra testnet is an advanced environment for testing Dijkstra features.

It is currently in Conway protocol version 11 for a short time, but users should upgrade to cardano-node pre-release 11.2.0 using the configuration files below in preparation for hard-fork to Dijkstra.

The latest version available is cardano-node release 11.2.0.

Faucet

A faucet is available at https://faucet.dijkstra.play.dev.cardano.org/basic-faucet

This faucet can be used to obtain test ADA as well as stake delegation for new pools on the Dijkstra testnet.

MusashiNet prototype

Advanced Configuration: Musashi Testnet

The Musashi Testnet (MusashiNet) is a prototype environment for evaluating the Ouroboros Leios protocol extension. It is an advanced environment intended for testing and not for production use.

The latest version available is the ouroboros-leios release candidate build rc-2026w44.
